Breaking the Stigma of Eating Disorders
The Eating Disorders Network in Brisbane which consists of public, private and community eating disorder services are banding together for this event to help expand global awareness of eating disorders as genetically linked, treatable illnesses that can affect anyone.
On May 30 we will be encouraging people to help break the stigma of eating disorders in the lead up to World Eating Disorder Action Day on June 2nd.
A breakfast and themed activities will be held at 89 Sherwood Road, Toowong, the offices of The Eating Issues Centre and The Eating Disorders Association Qld from 7:30-9:30am.
As a network of health professionals working the eating disorder sector we often see and hear of the negative influences of social media. This year, we want to encourage others to join us in breaking the stigma of eating disorders by focusing on positive social media messaging and interactions to create greater awareness.
A photobooth will be set up on the day for people to participate in a positive social media campaign which focuses on breaking stigma, positive body image and myth busting.
Throughout the day we will also be releasing a series of social media clips of people breaking the stigma and busting the myths surrounding eating disorders including –
- No such thing as good and bad food
- Eating Disorders are not a choice
